Default littele heat and low temp gauge-thermostate problem?

'02 v70 temp gauge doesn't go above 1/4 i cold weather (20 degrees) and the heat is minimal- check engine light is on- where should I start

I have the same problem with mine. I just finished replacing the thermostat. I had the check engine codes read and it told me a cold engine. Works fine now and I have heat. It was 3 degrees this morning. It was an easy fix.

Thermostat is likely stuck open.

Replace your thermostat. They are relatively inexpensive and very easy to change. This will more than likely solve your problem and give you heat.
