Default lost key

Hi all, My son lost the only key and remote fob we have for our V70 AWD tonight, it could be in the 15" of snow we have, or on the field where he was sledging. It is an Oct 1997 'R' reg.
Will this be an ECU and all the trimmings, or am I lucky[unlucky] enough to be able to replace a key with my VIN number, V5 and an ID,

I would be so grateful for advice or whether my fun Volvo is now scrap]

Many thanks Pat

Default Lost Keys

Hello Patt,

I too just went through the predicament of replacing keys for my 1998 V70.
My car is Canadian, but I simply went down to the Volvo dealership with my proof of ownership, VIN etc. Prepaid that night, and they sent out a parts shipment from the US. They had the keys and fob within two business days and I was told that since the car was a 1998 it just needed the fob programmed.

Ended up costing somewhere in the region of $320.00 Canadian for parts and labour to program the fob.

Hope this helps!

Hey Pat! my best-friend just went through the same situation.. a couple of weeks ago i think.. this was the company that helped him out Car Locksmith Recommendations | Auto Lockmsith Recommendations | Ratings i know, cause i did the research and called them for him cause he was in Taipei for a business trip and lost his keys there.. so i was just able to make him an appointment for his arrival. anyway, he got quoted £130 for a manual key and £90 pounds more for a new fob.. if i am not mistaken..

The guy made this post 2 years ago. He has already taken care of that long ago. Other than that, after ownership is proven, a key can be had at most dealerships for under $40.

didn't notice the date.. sorry.. after hours of staying in front of the pc all i was reading were various forums and info about it.. well it can still help sombody else.. and that's cheap! wish we they were offering the same prices here in the uk.. thought it was more expensive there.. another guy in another forum told me that it's more expensive to replace a car key there in the us than here in europe.. i'm confused now.. thanks for the info though.. cheers!

The dealer 2 blocks from me will charge $63 and one 750 miles away will ship me one for $34. So, my mama told me, you better shop around.
