Default Daugther lost ONLY key to to her 2004

My daughter has only 1 key to her '04 XC90... and now she's lost it. Luckily she's a college student and can do without it for a bit, but what options do I have? Will it have to be towed to a dealer?

Edit: the nearest Vovlo dealer is 35 miles away!

Unless your Volvo dealer has a mobile tech, you will have to tow it there. They can order the key cut from Sweden and program it. Shipping will be around a week though.

Luckily my daughter found her key, but I obviously want to get a spare so this doesn't happen again.

I assume that if she brings her key into a dealership they can both cut and program it- correct?

....and a lot of $$$$ keys can cost $250-$350 to "program." It's nuts.

Bring the car. Just the other key is needed to cut it, but in order to program it to the car, the car needs to be there.

If you have the Key Integrated Remote and don't want to pay for a key and remote, just get a valet key, it'll be cheaper.

Good suggestion. Can someone give me a ballpark of what a valet key should cost?

1 hour labor for programming plus the software is about $30 plus the key, which I don't remember the price of off hand.

The original remote key for my '01 s40 doesn't work.
I replaced the battery figuring that was problem but fresh battery did nothing.
Is this a common problem? Do I need a whole new remote from Volvo?
Can board be repaired? Thanks
