I have a 1999 V70 I dont thinh the key is chipped as it was manufactured 12/1998 and its a square key witht the recessed cut, Any idea how to find out if its is chipped? I am assuming that I can call the Volvo dealership with VIN and they can take care of it provided I show title etc. Any and all info greatly appriciated.

 

Did the key feel rubbery or was it just hard plastic?

 

If it is a USA car and it is a model year of 1999 then it has a chip regardless of what month it was manufatured. All 1999 model USA Volvos had immobilizer in them.

Ive got pretty much the same car and I lost my key... Not a smart move. The spare key which wasnt used at all was dead so I had to tow my car to the nearest dealership, order a new key and have them code it. They need the car for that.

So: Always have a spare key - and switch between the two every so often.
