loud siren noise
I have a 2003 v70 volvo station wagon that I bought used in 2007.I really didn't drive it that much the first 6 mos. but over the next year I noticed a siren that came on from the engine during a rain storm. It was awful. We were in a drought here in georgia for most of the year so I rarely drove in the rain. Now with my traveling more it is very apparent. My local volvo mechanic says it is the matter of an exhaust support kit that needs to be addressed by the dealership.Well this will cost me 300.00 put on.My regular guy printed out the notice that calls this a "customer interest"--exhaust system--squealing/pinging noise--date--1/25/07--I purchased my car 3/15/07.shouldn't i have been made aware of this-----do I have any chance of volvo being responsible for making this right?

My 2002 V70 AWD XC also experiences this ONLY during rainy conditions. I am in San Diego, so I don't hear it often. When I do, it sounds like a harmonic high pitch resonating from the engine compartment through the dash. It comes on slowly and increases much like you would get by rubbing a wet finger around the rim of a wine glass until the speed/moisture is just right.
Brought it to local Volvo deal and they looked at "propeller shaft" but found no signs of wear or rubbing.
Any recommendations are appreciated!
