I have a volvo v70, and something in my front left wheel well has scrapped the crap out of the back of my rim, I am not to mechanically smart when it comes to my car, but my older brother is, and I plan to have him help me out so please please help me out here.

I don't see anything obvious in those. Can you take some of the area down by the control arm where the wheel rim would be when the wheel is turned as for a left or right turn?

What you show as scraping on the rim is the nut that holds on the ball joint. There should be clearance there. Did someone put on wheels from the wrong car? Does the wheel bearing feel OK?

 

The wheels were there when my family bought the car

 

Assuming the wheels are the right size, I'd say either the ball joint ball is pulling out of the socket or you have a bad wheel bearing (hub).

 

Is that an easy fix?

 

The ball joint is easier than the hub.

 

Are the plastic steering stops or rollers still in good shape?

To post 11 where are the roller or the steering stops?

 

They are on the front of the control arm. There is 2 12mm head screws that hold it to the control arm.

In that picture you will see the indent on where they should be.

 

Hi your question on damage to inner of the wheel rim may be due to a fault in the bottom ball joint ,the question you submited i to wasalso concernd,because i have play in the front end on rought road it is hard to control the car at speed .So i went in to the recall of Volvo v70s only to find they had a recall on balljoints in 2000 + hope this may helpyou. regards Trev.
