mods on a 98
Ok, the mods will start tomorrow after my CEL issue is resolved. This car runs great, but like every other vehicle in this house, more HP is better. I am going to start with the basics and need a few pointers.
Car: 98 V70 AWD turbo
1) is an ECU swap necessary with a manual boost controller?
2) what is stock boost?
3) how much boost will the stock properly functioning fuel system support?
4) will a 3" exhaust throw a CEL?
5) will a test pipe or gutted cat throw a CEL?
6) how much boost will the bottom end support assuming it is supported correctly?

1. No, but an ECU upgrade is a better idea then a MBC any day and safer. Also if you go either route get a real boost gauge installed.
2. Well are you LPT or HPT? If your LPT your running about 5-7 PSI of boost.
3. If your LPT you can boost around 15PSI max.
4. It shouldn't.
5. Probably and not recommended. At least not a gutted CAT. Check your local laws on the legallity of that. Personally I wouldn't do it and don't recommend it. Just do a full 3" mandrel bent system with hi-flow CAT and straight through free flowing muffler such as a BORLA or Magnaflow.
6. 15PSI again is what is safe.
