My first Volvo
So, I've always like Volvos, since the Bertone anyways...
A friend of mine had a T5-R back in the 90's, and it was a hoot. Yellow with the gun metal wheels...nice.
I needed a car that could carry stuff, and was still good looking. That rules out a lot of cars...namely mini vans etc...
I came across a red V70 GLT here in Toronto for $2500. I'm taking it in for safety inspection and drive clean this morning. Fingers crossed!! I know for sure it needs two from tires and that the rear wiper is acting a bit on the funky side, but other than that, it's running like a dream. What a great car!!
I'll post some pics when I get it cleaned up and out in the sunshine. (parked underground).
Thinking maybe some tint and wheels/tires, but that stuff can wait a bit.
Anything to look out for?? It's got 130,000 miles on it. (auto)
Thanks!!

Did you get service records with the car? Those are vital to fully understand the vehicle maintenance history.
Number one with these cars is the timing belt system. Check for a tag on or near the timing cover showing the date/mileage of last change. If no data exists, plan on swapping out the belt, tensioners, idlers, and water pump immediately. These engines are interference type, so any failure in that system causes major ($$$) engine damage.
Other common issues at this age are seal leaks (cam, RMS, axle, turbo drain), plugged PCV system, brake/suspension/steering issues. The PCV system should be checked soon as well, as it can cause seal leaks if not functioning properly.
The auto transmissions can be problematic if not maintained well. I've only owned 5-speed manual cars, so I can't comment further in that area.
Good luck with the car!

Congrats, Toronto. I also have a 1998 RED V-70 Wagon. I picked it up for around the same price as you did, back in 2009 as a backup car. It has quickly become one of my main cars.
Gotta love the bang for the buck that you get out of these older Volvos.
