Exclamation Need urgent help with urethane upper torque mount

Hello,

I ordered a replacement upper torque mount, didn't want the OEM one based on how often they deteriorate. Now I'm wondering if something is wrong. I took out the stock mount and upon installing the urethane mount, it seems like it's too loose. The bolt holes are offset so you can twist either of the two urethane pieces either clockwise or counter-clockwise, and if I do that it becomes tight, however with both of the holes lined up dead even i can pass the urethane mount right through the bracket without even separating the two halves. Is this normal or did I get a defective mount or something? I made sure to purchase the right model, the one for the aluminum mount bracket on the head, not the one for the steel bracket that goes on the side of the motor. I could really use some advice on this because now I can't drive my car until I figure this out. Thank you!

They might have sent you the one for the steel bracket.

I know the steel bushings are smaller than the aluminum ones.

Should fit tight. Not just easily slide out.

Well, the upper engine mount on my 2001 V70 2.4T was replaced a few months ago with an after market urethane mount. The independent Volvo repair shop just installed it without asking me whether I wanted the OEM or AFT market unit. I didn't realize that the vibration caused the bolt to come undone from the upper engine mount and fall out. When I went to another Volvo shop (the guy is from Swedan and worked on Volvos there) for some service yesterday, he found the bolt missing and installed one. The vibration when coming to a stop was terrible in the steering wheel and dash and even sounded bad; and he advised me that the Volvo OEM mount using rubber was much better to reduce engine vibration even though they don't last as long as the AFT urethane mount. Today I immediately went to my local Volvo Dealer Parts Dept and bought a new OEM engine mount and installed it myself. Couldn't believe it: 100% improvement in reduced engine vibration. The Volvo OEM upper engine mount is PN 30680770 list price of $80.l94 but with my High Mileage Volvo 15% discount, the price was $68.80. No more after market urethane engine mounts for me!

to comment on above post, maybe they did not torque the bolt down properly. 36 ft-lbs is pretty tight and really shouldn't just come off like that.

and i got mine done today. ipd's version fit nice and tightly. i gotta tell you this is a really good and simple upgrade. they claim it may have more vibration, but honestly the only time it vibrates more is when i am cranking it up. otherwise it actually feels smoother. transmission shifts are definitely crisper as well and no more downshift clunks or off-the-line vibrations either. maybe it's vehicle-dependent on how good the results are with these urethane mounts?

the stock mount was shot, rubber was completely separated from the plastic surround. i'm sure this was the cause of the above problems, and replacing it with another OEM one would probably solve them about as well, but my feeling is that not only is this a lot less expensive, it should last longer too. can't beat that!
