PCV Cleaning

Can someone please tell me what I need to do to clean the PCV system on my 1998 V70 (base model, non-turbo)? I have found quite a bit of information on the web that recommends it be cleaned to prevent engine pressure from building up and blowing out the seals, but I'm not quite sure if my car has the "problematic" flame-trap device. Is this a relatively simple job to undertake? I have a set of torx drivers and don't mind doing a little work on my car, but I'm not an especially experienced mechanic. The car has almost 100K on it and is running well. We don't have any oil leaks yet, and I'd like to keep it that way.
Apologies in advance for cross-posts on other forums.

Look where the Hose goes from the Air filter box to the engine.
Remove the hose from the engine. You will see a funny looking thing on the side of the hose. Like the back side near the engine. Turn it to release it from the hose.
Inside the Black thing might and might not be a white insert. Volvo did away with them.
Make sure all the hoses are Clear. Any cloggs clean and reinstall.

Cool. Sounds like a relatively easy job. I just took a look under the hood, and it doesn't look too difficult to get to the parts involved. I'll probably tackle it this weekend.
One more question: is it a good idea to clean out the throttle body and plate while I've got that hose disconnected? I assume this should be done regularly. Is a rag and some carb cleaner okay for this task?
Many thanks for the guidance.
