Picked up a 2004 V70 2.4 tune up hints
Just picked up a 2004 v70 2.4 with 68000mi. wanted to provide good maint on it, changed the plugs with oem air filter, synth oil change, wanted to know what else should I do. I was looking to change the tranny fluid I know they use a special brand what do you all recommend as well as how do you remove the old tranny fluid in this model. Many thanks ...Chuck

Also check the owners manual to see if there are any fluid specs for your model/year but its likely you have an Aisen Warner transmission - same as Toyotas which take a JWS3309 spec'd fluid. If you want to go synth in the transmission you will need to read up on which products meet that spec. Otherwise some have found buying the Toyota T-IV OEM fluid (which is 3309 spec) can be found at a reasonable price.
As with most transmissions there are two ways to flush, the drain/fill via the bottom plus - which dumps about 1/3 of the fluid so you need to do a few iterations to get mostly new, clean fluid in the transmission. If your model has a transmission cooler up near the radiator, the other option is to buy a kit which is hoses/buckets - you can unhook the lines from the cooler and the output dumps into one bucket and picks up from the other - essentially using the transmission to pump the old fluid out and new fluid in. Check Volvo friendly sites like IPD USA or FCP Euro to see if they have such a kit for your model/year - and call them if you are unsure if this option works for your model. They can also suggest what brands of fluid meet your spec.
