Default power seats v70

I have a 2002 V70XC with the memory seats in it. When you unlock and get into the car you only have about 30 seconds to move the driver seat to where you want it - then it goes dead until you shut off the car, lock it and leave it sit for 5-15 min.....any ideas???

I have the same issue with my driver seat. So far I replaced the controller under the seat with one from the junk yard. No fix. Replaced the whole seat with a nearly new seatincluding allcontrols out of an'03 V70. Stll the same. I think it is the central computer that has lost its programming . It definitely has nothing to do with the seat or any part attached to it.
I gave up on the fix. Let me know if you have better luck.

Thanks for the info on your seat...I have tested the equipment under the seat...it seems the boxes just loose power from (like you said) the computer....I wish I had a manual seat.....do not need all the bells and whistles

Default RE: power seats v70

I was looking up some seat wiring for another member on this forum and noticed a relay in the system. It is relay 2/29 and is located under the dash left of the steering column. This is the relay that the C.E.M. switches on and off for power to the seat. In my car it turns it on when the door is opened but turns it off again after 30 seconds. This confirms that the fault is definitely in the C.E.M. programming. If you look at the wiring diagram you can bypass the relay if so desired and the power seats will have constant power. I don't know what the electrical draw of the control box is and how quick it would drain the battery but I may give this a shot.

Did anyone ever find a good solution on this one? I've got the exact same problem on a 2001 S60.

Default Power seat issue v70

I know this post is old, however I have the same issue. Had the dealership look at it when they replaced the fuel pump (due to a recall) and they said it was the main power seat control module on the drivers' side under the dash (not the unit under the seat). They wanted $1,000 to replace it. Claimed that it was about $900 for the part and about $100 for programming. Stated that I would not be able to get a used one, because once they were programmed/mated to a car, then they could not be reprogrammed. This sounds fishy to me. Anyone else run into this? I guess it is possible that the manufacturer would not use re-programmable memory, but why, when EEPROMs are generally inexpensive?

Thanks,

Jonboy

I have the same issue where my seat stops working after about 30 seconds. The thing is that relay that was mentioned earlier controls power to the climate control as well. I did some testing and found out that simply jumpering that relay will not help. You actually have to momentarily cut the power (Violet w/ White Stripe) that goes to the control module under the seat. Rather than buy a whole new module, I just installed a momentary push button (normally closed) below the seat that will cut this line. Then the seat will work again for another 30 seconds. Something is happening with the seat module that requires it to be reset before it will work again.

Default I Finally Solved This on My Car

Here's a recap of my version of the Power Seat Issue in a 2001 S60

I have the same condition on my driver side power seat on a 2001 S60. All the adjustments work perfectly including MEM settings - but only for the first 45 seconds after I unlock the doors. Then nothing. No intermittent, No sputtering. Nada. The only way to get controls working again is to turn off the car, exit, lock the doors, wait a while, then unlock the doors again. Then I get seat control again for about 45 seconds. If I leave the door open while adjusting I get more time. When the seat does work, it's perfect: all controls, full power, full memory functions, no switch problems.

My mechanic rebooted my car computer as a stage 1 trouble shoot. Problem came back.

Then I swapped in a used Seat Control Module that I bought as a second stage troubleshoot. It behaved exactly like the original power seat module.

So, I swapped them back and that's where I'm at now. The problem must be upstream of the module and it seems software based. According to the manual, the power seat has three basic programs:

1.) Door open, key in off position: 10 minutes of adjustment
2.) Door Closed, key in off position, 30 seconds of adjustment
3.) Door Closed, Key in ON position, always allow adjustment

It's as if the line of software code that tells the computer to continue allowing seat adjustment power for #3 (when the key is in the on position) is corrupted.

Anyone know what I'd ask for at the dealer that is the equivalent of an operating system restore and update? Sort of like reloading Windows from the disc after a major crash? I'm thinking that may unscramble whatever line of code is scrambled.

Here's what finally solved it:

Mine was fixed in a software reload. I asked my mechanic to download the software from Volvo and reload it onto the PSM.
I happened to have been getting a new ETM, which required software service - so, I asked him to get the PSM software at the same time. Saves some money as I think indy mechanics are charged a big fee to log on and then a smaller fee per download.

Worked for me. No new hardware. My problem was all software side. PSM Reload took care of it.

I don't know what it cost as it was rolled into the ETM charges, but it probably would cost around $260 if you had to have it done as a service by itself.

NOTE: My mechanic reloaded all the systems on my car on this service. So, I can't say for certain that the PSM reload alone took care of my power seat issue. I suppose it could have been a combination of reloads. But likely...

I hope this helps others. I didn't have a working Power Seat for years until now. It's been stable for months now. Definitely solved.
