Default Prestone VS Volvo coolant

Good Evening:

I recently flushed my cooling system and replaced it with a 50/50 mix of Prestone. I was reading my Gothenburg bible and he seems to feel the Volvo coolant is superior. Any opinions or facts that would support the use of Volvo coolant? I understand the silicate base vs phosphate base differences BUT when mixed with distilled water is the Prestone (phosphate based) coolant am I really still better off using volvo coolant?

Thanks,
Gino

Of course I see this thread AFTER I flushed and refilled my cooling system.

First, FWIW let me say that the mention of only adding DISTILLED water in the post above is an excellent one. I see the Behr radiator for the V70 only costs $215 from FCP Groten.... I would still rather avoid changing it if I can avoid it. I have only run distilled water (with appropriate coolant) since I paid over $600 for a radiator in my 124 chassis MB.

For less then a buck a gallon, distilled water is a cheap way tokeep calcium out of your cooling system.

Now, here is the coolant I used;

FINAL CHARGE® Global Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze features a patented Organic Acid Technology (OAT) formula that delivers total cooling system protection for 600,000 miles of on-road use (6 years or 12,000 hours of off-highway use) without the use of Supplemental Coolant Additives (SCAs). The only maintenance required is the addition of Final Charge Extender at 300,000 to 400,000 miles of on-road use (3 years or 6,000 hours of off-highway use). When required, you should also top-off the cooling system with FINAL CHARGE or FINAL CHARGE 50/50 Pre-diluted Global Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze only.

FINAL CHARGE Global Extended Life Coolant is a phosphate-free, silicate-free, nitrite-free and borate-free, globally formulated coolant which uses proprietary organic corrosion inhibitors to provide superior wet sleeve liner cavitation and corrosion protection of all cooling system metals.

Using FINAL CHARGE Global Extended Life Coolant can reduce your service and maintenance cost by:

[ul][*]
Eliminating the use of Supplemental Coolant Additives (SCAs), and the cost of up to 24 recharges over 600,000 miles
[*]
No inhibitor testing is required
[*]
Chemically charged filters are not required
[*]
Extended service interval keeps vehicles on the road reducing downtime
[*]
Reduces inventory costs. FINAL CHARGE coolant can be used in the cooling systems of all types of heavy-duty diesel, gasoline and natural gas engines.
[/ul]

Both MB and BMW recommend only their proprietary brands of coolant. All the research I did (couple years ago) was that it was because they were "phosphate-free, silicate-free".

If Tech or anyone else has had problems with coolant other then 'green' (ethylene Glycol) I will dump this new coolant and change over immediately. What do you think? Is the 'Final Charge' ok, or should I change it out?

Thanks
