Default Radio has brain box?

Hi

I recently replaced my 2005 V70 factory radio with a XM. After I did this the Volvo Dealer said it shouldn't have been done because the factory radio is the brain box for the codes plus I'll have idiot lights going off from now on. Has anybody heard of this? Is this true?

Did you add on XM or replace the whole thing? You need software to remove the radio properly.

was there 2 orange wires on the back of this? fiber optic cables? this may pose a problem if not connected, I am not sure what though.
