Anyone know where I could purchase a new latch assembly for a decent price? I can't find anything online really. And my mechanic wants $200 just for the part. Also, do they make any that aren't plastic?

I just did a search and couldn't find one either. Try your local auto salvage yards. Sorry

 

My rear latch won't engage. It seams like their is a spring loose or something. This renders the rear hatch unlockable. Is there a simple fix for this?

Usually it is something broke in the assembly.
