Default Saving 2002 V70 T5 from landfill

Hello, I am new here and need some help with an 02 V70 T5. I have come across this Volvo on its way to the land fill and am taking possession with a bad motor. The vehicle is in great condition minus the hold in the side of the motor. So I have agreed to take the vehicle and am planning on replacing the engine but am having trouble. It is equipped with the 2.3L Turbo engine and 122K miles. I have found an engine locally with 82K miles for $1,800. This seems pretty high for an engine and have found many other options online that include shipping for the same price point but with as little as 25K and 45K miles.
My question is this, these other engines came off of 2004 and 2003 model vehicles like S70, S60, etc. Is a 2004 or 2003 2.3L engine the same as the one I need?
I just need to know what exactly to look for I guess

I think the engines from 04 and 03 are certainly a better value with way less miles.

Thanks in advance as I am new to the whole Volvo thing.

Man, you should be able to find that motor for way less. I'd go for one that has less than 200,000 on it for $800 or something like that. You can likely find a car that has been wrecked or has a bad tranny for $1,000.

Welcome to the site.

The engines I have found are $800-1000 for 125K+. Anything in the 80K and less miles is 1600 or more. If it was the 2.4L it would be no problem as they are like $400 for reasonable miles. I am just trying to figure out if the 03-04 matches up and if I can switch from a different car with same engine like a C70 or S60 etc.

If you're not an expert on these cars and MYs (or willing to do the extensive research to become one) then you're probably biting off a little more than you can chew.

If you're going to swap a different MY engine then suggest you get a wrecked donor car so you have access to all the wiring harnesses, mounts, fittings, etc. that you may need. Then when you're done and got your car working well, sell what's left of the donor car back to the JY.
