Seeking solutions to the infamous Buzzing Fuel pump
My 2000 V70 XC AWD Turbo is buzzing again after recent OEM replace of fuel pump.
Backround: Bought from mechanic that found it at yard sale after It sat for 10 yrs. He renewed and replaced hoses, belts, tuned up. Ran well with no buzz with 96K on it. After I put few K on her, fuel pump buzz, after market part, repaired and replaced by Import repair shop when it smoked and failed 2 times.
It went out again, took to Volvo dealer, they replaced with discontinued OEM part found on shelf in the Midwest.
Now 400 miles later, FP making noise again. Dealer says 80% ok the old ones do, just keep driving. He says in a cool way, I have PTSD from my experience with the previous episode. Lol. They are a good group and great people. I even went to him with a list from chat GPT of all the common things to check ie: pressure on rail, fuel filter ect… it was a long list. He spoke with mechanic and they checked over all the boxes when did repair. The filter was good and replaced by the previous fellow. Oh they both cleaned the tank well. The dealer said they did an extensive job because the other group missed the low corners. They said a replacement gas tank is totally not available.
So now I’m running the Lucas fuel cleaner. Looking for any other great suggestions or is it common for a continuous humming noise?
Thanks, Rick in Virginia
