I am in the market for a 1998 turbo model but being that I have only owned the 1999 Non turbo model I have no basis for the problems that turbo’s frequently run into. That being said what problems do turbo models have at around 100k as I will be buying a model with about that many miles. Also how are all the switches/motors for windows, doors locks and seats? Are they rock solid or prone to problems. Basically I’m just looking for info as far as what problems I may run into with a 1998 turbo with all the options as opposed to a non turbo with base options.I'm not considering the AWD version as FL is not hilly or snowy. Thanks in advance for any and all info. Also I will be selling a 1999 v70 stock radio soon if interested let me know, have codes and its in good shape even after the accident that totaled my v-70.

Gotcha, was just thinking about the big ticket items going bad i.e. turbo (blades/bearings) going. Any idea on easy way to check service? was thinking about finding original owners location and calling volvo dealer to see if VIN was in comp or just maybee having it checked out by a pro mech would sufice. Ever hear of these guys (see below)they look like they have some good stuff

Put it this way See if the seller/owner seller has the history.
If not then have it checked by someone that knows Volvo's.
The 98 is pretty much the same motor as the 850. If taken care of the turbo will last a long time. The wifes car has 230K on it still original turbo.
So most will go by how well it was taken care of.

Ok sounds good but how do you take care of a turbo??. I founda 1998 turbo AWDwith decent maint record but not for the last 20K miles and its an AWD I have notice that on Edmunds it seems that the AWD always have problems more so than thenon AWD so i was thinking that if I got the AWD model I could diconect the rear and or front to just have 2wd is there any reason why that could not be done?

Sweet, tech your the MAN one more thing, I'm sure the gas mileage will be decreased a little but will there be any detrimental issues in doing the drive shaft removal conversion? and could I do it myself? Basically I'm looking to get a non AWD (as there are issues with the AWD) with no major negative results from the conversion. You are the best mod thanks!

Everything will be fine with removing the drivershaft.
Not exactly sure of your ability on working on cars. But there is a support bracket in the middle of the driveshaft. Then there is 4 screws on each end(Allens) then you have to work it out and all will be fine.
