Stange Noise and Throttle Sticking

Stange Noise and Throttle Sticking
My 98 V70 is making a very strange noise that I can not figure out. It's coming from the front, but you don't feel anything in the steering, ride, brake or gas pedal. I can't tell if it's coming from the engine compartment or the dash. It happens when we go over a bump and it sounds kind of like a rattle and sometimes is sounds almost like something rubbing on rubber.
Another problem is the gas pedal sticks when you first push on it. Once you get past the sticking spot right at the beginning it's fine. Once the car warms up it doesvery little. Last night when it was 3 degrees I almost could not push it at all. I had to push real hard and the car would surge and I would have to let up and you can actually feel it come back up past the sticking point. After 20 mintues of driving it was barely sticking. It was too cold for me to even look at it at 10:00 after watching the Super Bowl at my daughter's house. Wife says it's been doing it for a while now, but I hardly ever drive the V70.

RE: Stange Noise and Throttle Sticking
It got up to 11 degrees today so I was able to go out and work a little, very little. I sprayed some WD40 on the gas pedal mechanisim and it quit sticking. I think it needs something new up there though because it feels kind of loose. The rattling noise may have come from the front under body pan and the shroud that goes around the inside of the passenger wheel well. Both were kind of loose and I tightened them up. Didn't bother driviing it though. I know the gas pedal isn't sticking like it was and I'll let the wife tell me if the rattling is still there. Too cold to do much more than what I did. Tomorrow it's going up to 15 though.

RE: Stange Noise and Throttle Sticking
Jim, as to the sticking throttle.............I experienced that on one of my collector autos and what had occured was that water had entered the cable and would freeze. The ice kept the inner cable from moving freely withing the outer "tube". The only fix was to fill the cable with wd-40 which was not a sure cure.
