Starter Ignition Problem
Dear Forum,
Good Morning from the lovely Pacific Northwest. I wish better circumstances were bringing me here. It started out as difficult to turn and procedded to impossible to turn the key. I was able to get a technician form the dealership to talk to me. It was dark and I was going to be stranded in the night. The car was going to have to be left in a parking lot all night also because there is no night recieving at the dealership in Portland. Yikes.
I did make it home complete with laptop and purse, no coat, just a small jacket.Riding the MAX and then walking the remaining 12 blocks to my home.
My Toyota pick-up is a 1998, it has never stranded me like this. I am so mad at The Volvo.
I have had two tows so far and now the car is at the Dealership, JimFisher Volvo
My car is a 2004 V70
52K miles on this car
So far I have invested in this issue
2 tows= 111.00 and 65.00
Diagnostics = 46. This shop had me tow it again to the dealership.
I am very nervous.
My question, has anyone had experience with a problem similar?
Also , The outcome, possible solution to this issue.
Do I have a lemon?
What is going on.. Any and all insight is appreciated.
Thank you so much ,LoudSilence

The car would not start.
The car is now in the shop getting a new ignition sent from Sweden.
Thank you for answering.
I was hoping for some help in case it happens to anyone again. I did have my laptop with me and was searching for ignition problems on the V70. So in theory to share knowledge with others. I have calmed down now and over the itnitial shock of something actually happening to this beautiful ride.

OK, The car is supposed to be finished today. The final verdict is $932.50
Ignition replaced, starter replaced. I will get the codes and post them here after I pick up the car.
Sheese, I am disturbed.

Wow, that doesnt sound good, sorry to hear that happen pal. I just got a 2001 V70 T5 and hearing stories like yours have me crapping my pants as i never had to pay for my Japanese cars more than $350 for repairs and never got stranded
Im wondering how much are the parts you paid for and if it was possible and hard for you to replace those yourself?

Hello,
I've started having a similar problem with my 1998 V70 (193k). Over the past two weeks it has gotten progressively more difficult for me to get the key out of the ignition when I turn off the car. I have to jiggle it a few times before it will come out. Today when I went to start the car I couldn't get the key to turn on the first attempt. Second attempt: key turned but no turnover (no response at all.) I got the car to start on the third attempt.
I'm going to take it in to the shop later this week and hope I don't get stranded in the meantime if the ignition decides to go out on me. I can't afford to spend $900+ to fix this problem, so I hope that it can be fixed for less. If anyone has any advice from their experiences, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I was able to fix the problem using advice provided by tech on another post:

My shifter button was not all the way out. Rather than jiggling the key I jiggled the shifter and was able to get the key in and out smoothly to start the car.
