Default Suspenssions questions for 2001 V70 2.4T.

Hello,

My car 2001 V70 2.4T is at 95k miles.

I have been noticing for last 1 or 2 years that the car is getting less and less stable when we drive it.
It feels like it floats over the road.

We got the car with 60k miles and it drove great when we bought.

I assume the wear and tear with 95k miles are causing this poor suspension performance.

Last year we replaced front lower control arms and I believe also some sway bar links in the back.
While the sound went away, the one old control arms were making, the car still drive pretty poor.

I was thinking if shocks needs to be changed both front and rear.
It seems the car feels a bit more bouncy than it used to feel.

So my question was if 95k miles is a good millage to start replacing shocks on the car?

Any other ideas what we can look at replacing besides shocks, which can improve overall driveability?

Thanks for your help.

Daniel

Yes, if shocks are original, they're probably due.

As far as improving driveability, guess it depends on how you define that term...

If you're going to replace the shocks, my recommendation would be Bilstein TCs and if you want flatter cornering, go with IPD sway bars. The Bilstein TCs will give a slightly firmer ride, but improve handling dramatically. If you want max performance you can go with the HDs, but they're too harsh for my taste.

Hello, Also, check your mounting seat and bearings on the top of the struts. Check for smoothness? Grease them? How cracked can the rubber thing be? I couldn't tell you, but check them out. Also, posters say to use the heavier duty XC90 spring seat rubber if yours are shot. Kira

Yeah, I am thinking to just bring the car back to what it used to be when it was newer.

Not really interested in performance per say.

I was thinking to replace the shocks with OEM ones, to keep the ride the same, just give a bit more control back to the car and eliminate the bouncy feel.

I will make sure to check what you suggested in regards to other suspension components.

Thanks
