It is a real pain.
You have to get the panel off then pretty much break all the parts out of the latch to get it open.
Then you need to install a new latch.

Tailgate is Messed up
I have a 1998 V70 and I am unable to get the tailgate to unlock. I have removed the trim as well as the manual open lever and can see the complete lock assembly and when i depress the unlock spoon manually nothing happens.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance on getting the tailgate open...
