I did a search any couldn't find anything on the tire bolt thread. I have two holes on my rear tires which have buggered threads. I wanted to chase them out but I don't know what tap I need to purchase. I have done some seaarches on this forum as well as the internet and found a few hits that indicated the thread was a 12mm X 1.5 or 1.75. Well I managed to get a thread guage and found that it appears to be a 1.5 so I purchased a 12mm X 1.5. Unfortunately the tap goes right through the hole which means it has to be biggr then a 12mm. Would anyone happen to know what size tap is required? TIA

I think it might be a 14MM but not 100% sure.

 

14 x 1.5 should get you there (2000 model and up).

Previous years were 12 x 1.75.

 

I have a 98 V70 T5, and just last week had one of my aftermarket studs shear. It is a 12 x 1.5 thread, I can guarentee it. Could someone have possibly drilled and tapped the hole for a helicoil? If they did, that thread would be a 14mm. but not standard thread. If you can find someone with a 14mm helicoil tap, that would confirm if is threads right in or not. That's about all the help I can provide.

The 1998 is the 12X1.5 the P2 cars 1999 S80 and 2001 S60 and V70 are bigger lugs.

 

Thanks for the help. I finally located a 14M X 1.5 tap and chased out the threads. The new bolts now go in with no problem.
