Default Rear Brake Light Puzzle

Greetings.

I have a 2002 V70 T5 and about 8 months ago I started getting a warning on the dash and a message -> "check stop light". I seem to recall one light not working. Of course time went by and I did nothing about it. Well, yesterday I noticed neither brake light was working except for the long bar atop the rear window. I thought I was dealing with burned out light bulbs and so I got two new ones from the dealer. I replaced the bulbs but still nothing works. I thought then perhaps I was dealing with a burned out fuse. I looked in the back fuse panel (located in cargo area wall) but the fuse is just fine. So given 1 of the 3 brake light works (only the baratop the rear window), where should I looknext? Is there another fuse I should consider, I checked all in the back and all in the engine compartment (front) and thus far have not found a burned fuse. Is there a relay parhaps I should consider ?? Please HELP !

Cheers

Check the relays in the rear fuse panel I have seen them go bad a couple of times.
The 3rd one isn't included with the rest of them.

tech-

Just had the same problem with my brake lights, 2003 V70 2.5T AWD. Do you know which relay controls the brake lights? I wiggled and reset them all, but to no avail.

Thanks,
emf

The right hand tail light on my car gets really damp (looks like the beginnings of a swamp at this stage) ... anyway, what I'm trying to say is, could it be possible for the "contacts" for the light bulbs to be corroded/dirty and therefore not working?
