Tire wear question
I have a 2001 V70 T5 that is going through front tires like water. I bought 4 Yokahomas in November of 2008 and the front are bald. The tire store blamed it on me not rotating them but I call BS on that. I have never seen a car go through tires like this one. Bad thing is getting 17 inch tires will put you in the poor house. Has anyone changed to 16 inch and if so what was the results.
Get an alignment.
16" vs. 17" makes little to no difference. Tire tread compounds vary widely between tire models, what Yokohama's are you running?
Alignment, driving style, climate, wheel balance, and road conditions will all effect your tire wear.

It's a little hard to comment when there is so little info you have provided. Is there cupping, feathering, one side wear, middle wear, edge wear.........
If they wore out even, then it's most likely the driver or type tires not the car. As JTapper mentioned, the tires themselves are a big factor, espically if you are running the super soft and sticky high performance tires. My V70 01 T5a got around 50K on the factories. My last set were cheaper ones and I got 35K. Too early to say how the current set will last, but they are looking good so far with 17K on them.

The tires are evenly worn Yokahoma A430's. My wife drives the car and I can assure you that she drives more like a granny then a teenage boy with a lead foot.
They told me when I bought the tires they were the best 17 inch tire they sold and for over $800.00 a set they should of been.
Ive bought tires for both my suburban and volvo 940 several months before these yoko's and all eight of those are still in good shape so it has to be crappy soft tires.
The bottom line is I need to get new tires and wondered if I would feel a big difference from my 17's to new 16's since 16's will save me a bunch of money in replacements.

Going from 17" to 16" would be a waste. You'll lose some handling, and the cost savings will be offset by the need for new wheels.
