Default excessive tire wear

The weather here now has changed and I have switched my snows for summer tires.
(actually did it a few weeks ago now).

I noticed the right rear tire was pretty worn on the outer shoulder.

I'm pretty dilligent with tire pressures and all the other tires looked like they had normal wear.

When I look at the car from the rear, the RR tire looks to be toed in. I've not had an alignment, however is there
any adjustability at all in the rear to correct this issue?

I've not hit anything, and the snows were brand new this year, only have about 15,000 km on them.

Before I take it to an alignment shop, I'd like a little background.

Car is a 98 V70 wagon, 145,00km

As an aside, anyone considering low profile tires for this car ought to make sure you have a good dental plan.
It's like riding in a tractor now with low profile tires, I regret buying them....although it does handle like a gokart.

Thanks, Terry

Yes there is adjustment for the rear.
If you look under the car you will see 2 Big scres where the Rear arms meet. Those screws are where you adjust. The screws you are looking at adjust the opposite side of what you are looking at.

I took the car to an alignment shop and the fellow said there is no rear toe adjustment on this car.
He aligned the front end only.
He said the rear was aligned within specification of factory.

I beg to differ; this car wears out the right rear tire on the outer shoulder.

What to do?
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks, Terry

He doesn't know what he is doing either.
To set Rear toe the Rear Control Arms are adjusted.
Did you happen to get the Lifetime alignment deal at the shop?

Hi i'm new here and just read your thread. My S60 has the same problem except it's on both rear wheels. I drive Pirelli P6000 225 x 45 x 17. Hate the tyres as it feels like I'm riding on ice at times. I've been in touch with my dealer and Volvo and they are checking her out in a few weeks time.

There are rear adjustments. Take it back to the shop and get someone who knows what they're talking about to fix it. They're obligated to.

From my research the VolvoAWD are very hard on the tire wear. Owners are replacing their tires at 15-20k (mils). They claim due to the way the Volvo AWD is build results in a fast wearing on the tires treads. I currently have Michelins Piolts but they are making a funny noise and treads have worn.

Here's a poll on the suggested tire replacment.

I plan on getting the Nokian WR G2 SUV (all Season), they are hard to find and run about $200-$240 p/tire[] (may need to order online)

If i'm going to replace my tires every 15-20mil, I figure it would run about the same $$ wise to invest inthe Nokian Tireswhich (is about 45,000 miles) If interested in the Nokian, check out Josh Spangler @ tiresbyweb@gmail.comor 800 576-1009 ext 775 (May offer a little discount- Tell him Liz from the volvo forum refrered you)
