Default Traction control

Hey guys, I have a 99 v70 fwd non-turbo and I noticed for the first time that in the rain the tires just spun. I thought I had traction controlso I looked for the button and when I pushed it the light went on. I tried it again w/light off and it the wheels spun again. If the system isn't working, I thought that the light would come on. What am I missing?
Thanks

I think the wheels have to really be spinning. If the system is actively reducing power to the wheels, the traction control light will flash.

If you are slipping a lot and it just isn't working, I'd have it looked at.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that the traction light would come on if there is a malfunction.

The tracs system on the early cars is very sad. But yours should work better since it is a 1999 you should feel something happening when the tires are spinning.

Its odd. I have BMW with traction so I have some experience with how it works. The wheels just spun. Now we did'nt have ice or snow yet but I didn't fell anything kick in and I can turn the light on and off by pushing the button.

Remember it is electronically controlled through the throttle body. SO you will not feel it in the throttle pedal. Rest your foot on the brake and see if you feel anything.
Also if the ABS light is on the tracs is disabled.

When I turn into a road and accelerate too quickly/hard, I can hear the ABS module vibrating as it is trying to slow the wheel down. Mind you, my pads are so to say gone, so might be much softer noise if your brakes are still good.

Maybe the ABS module is bad and the system isn't working.

Thanks for helping. I tried the abs in the rain and it worked perfectly.

Might also want to inspect the ABS module with a mirror and see if the proper module is in the car.
