Transmission fluid dipstick is stuck!

RE: Transmission fluid dipstick is stuck!
Hello SZ,
I doubt the dipstick is stuck. It is a plastic member fitting into a metal tube.
The dipstick has a metal catch that snaps over the lip, just shy of the the top **** on which you grab and pull. If you clasp the **** and the metal catch, it could be very difficult to remove.
My I suggest you try again, with the engine off and plenty of light. Teach yourself how to remove the dipstick without getting tangled in the radiator fan. When you can comfortably remove the dipstick and avoid the fan; start the engine; move the gear selector from park, to reverse, to drive, to reverse, to park with a pause at each selection. Then check your fluid level - enging running.
Note: if checking a warm transmission, you may omit the gears selection.
good luck,
Dennis

RE: Transmission fluid dipstick is stuck!
Thanks for all the info woodkayakr. I'm pretty familiar with this procedure and this has never happened to me. The dipstick is quite reachable and is definitely sticking somehow. It could be the o-ring that tech mentioned. I've pulled so damn hard that I'm surprised I haven't broken the handle off the stick. I'll give it a try again in the morning...

RE: Transmission fluid dipstick is stuck!
I had the same problem with my 99 V70.
In the end I removed the whole dipstick assembly (complete with stuck dipstick) and freed it on the bench.
There was some mild corrosion in the top of the tube and the O ring was stuck to the rust. A new O ring and a clean up and the problem was solved.. Oh and my dipstick doesn't have the clip as mentioned above.
