Default Transmission question

Hello everybody,
I've had some issues with my V70, here goes.
I got the transmission rebuilt but still have issues. The mechanic told me that it's nothing but just a software download. It shifts fine as long as the car is running but when I come to a full stop it takes the transmission a few seconds to engage and sometimes it gives a soft jump.
Any comments?

Thanks

What year car do you have? How old are the mounts?

It's a 2001 and the motor mounts are not new but I'm not sure how old they are.

It needs the software upgrade to remove the "neutral stop" feature, which basically puts the tranny in neutral at red lights to reduce vibration. This is one of the main reasons that these transmissions fail in the first place :-) After the upgrade it will probably need to re-adapt ad well. There is a procedure for this, but best left to the dealer, probably. Check that you dont have any issues with strange shifts between 2nd and 3rd - that's another sign...

Cheers

Thanks Steve, other than that issue the car shifts fine, lots of power! So, is it safe to drive like that until I can afford to take it to the dealer, what's the re-adapt?

I can't but wonder why on earth that is not something covered by Volvo.

Thanks

Once the software has been upgraded, you have to do a series of starts and stops, letting the transmission get to 4th gear without exceeding 1450 rpm, or some such complicated thing, I can't remember all the details. Volvo will do it, and charge 2 hours for it, but i'd argue that IF the car has the wrong software then it would be their fault (assuming volvo did the tranny rebuild)

The car is safe to drive, but its many people's opinion that the neutral-stop software issue is what causes these transmissions to fail in the first place - so I'd have it looked at sooner rather than later

Cheers

Steve
