Transmission whining ? Should I worry?
I recently bought a used 1998 V70 XC AWD Turbo automatic with 110,000 mi. It is a very nice car and everything has been fine with it except for a whining noise that seems to be coming from maybe the transmission? It is an occasional noise that starts when the car is in drive, at about 30 mph and gets louder when decellerating and stops when the car stops. The whining will dissapear after about 2000 rpm. but below that it comes and goes. The noise is a hi pitched noise like a very quiet turbo engine. The only thing that makes sense to me is that is the transmission. Trans. fluid is good. Should I be worried about this? Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot further?
Is this year/model prone to transmission problems?
Thanks for any advice.
