Default V70, 2002. Engine System Service Required

Hi,

The info centre on my V70, 2002, has started posting the error "Engine System Service required". I took my car to the volvo mechanics to perform a test. It showed the error code: DDM-0025: Throttle motor signal missing (written in Swedish so my translation might not correspond exactly to the US error code describtion).

Now I know that this probably calls for a replacement throttle body and a new and costly encoding (no guarantee offered on this part living Scandinavia). Still I'd like to understand more thoroughly what's going on.

My questions are:
1)
Why does this error message only appear every 5th time that I start the engine (on average)? Does this mean that the signal to the throttle motor is in fact intact when the message doesn't appear in the dashboard?

2)
When driving the car with the warning message on, I can feel absolutly no difference in the engines perfomance and no uneven idle running. Aspiring to my logical sence this tells me that the throttle body is working ok despite the error message. Could the error message be due to a faulty wire connection or is this asumptions way off?

Thanks for your replies on this subject.
/Stig

It could have an intermittent signal loss and that's why it throws the code.
