Hi to all,
I have a 98 V70 AWD that has began eating inside rear brake pads. I have been purchasing OEM Volvo pads due to the normal parts stores' listings are incorrect. They list a pad that uses a 2 pin pad (kind of like a motorcycle pad), but mine are different. Even the dealer can only get me these by verifying the VIN. The car was purchased directly from Volvo in Sweden, by a military family, and I purchased it from them once the car made it stateside. The rear calipers are Girling, and the e-brake uses a shoe inside the rotor housing. The pads that my car uses look very similar to VW Corrado rear pads. The pads are oblong, with tabs on the ends, and a spring mechanism on the top. There are suttle differences that my car has that I haven't seen on other V70 AWDs, like the exhaust exits the opposite side than all the others that I have seen, etc... My question(s):
1.) What makes my car so different?
&
2.) Any ideas why all of a sudden this thing is eating rear inside pads (in less than a month the brake pad lining is paper thin)?
Thanks for any help.

Possibly the Caliper going bad and Hanging up.
Thats what it sounds like.
Also next time you go to the dealer for Pads have them show you a set of 960 and S90 rear pads and see if they are the Same.
Yes the AWD uses different pads than the V70.
Not sure about what makes your car different besides the Fact that your exhaust is different.
In other areas besides the U.S. the XC was avalible in Dual exhaust.
