Default V70 roof rails (roof rack)

I recently bought a Certified/Used 2002 V70 for my daughter. It did not come with roof rails/rack. I want to install a roof rack. T

he dealer quoted me a price of about $290 for the rack and another $150, or so, for installation.

Question: 1. Can I get a Volvo, factory roof rail/rack for less elsewhere? and

2. Is the installation very difficult?

Thanks for your responses.

Hey I've done this and I did it pretty cheap and it only took me about an hour on my 98 V70. You want what is known as Euro Rals that run front to back and then you will need the crossbars too. On the 98, I just took out that molding that runs all the way from the hood up along the side of the windshield and to the back of the car. Then the new Euro Rails come with all new stripping and the holes to bolt the rail into are obvious to you. They will be all greased and have caps on them. It was really easy. I had to buy the crossbars new, but I found the Euro Rails used. I will try to find where I found them. It wasn't real cheap, but way less than dealer price that's for sure. The $290 you are talking about is probably just the Euro Rail w/o crossbars. It took quite a bit of shopping and calling people to get the best deal, but it was worth it, and it looks great on the wagon. If you buy it from the dealer there is one small piece that is not included, and the used car place gave me everything even several extra bolts. I bought two Thule Hull-a-port kayak carriers and they fit right on the Volo roof rack with no problem.

I think I got the crossbars from here:

http://www.volvopartsworld.com/

You have to call them. They do not list them on their website. Be careful and don't get the crossbars that fit on the sedan. You want to put a permanent roof rack on your car not something that clamps into the door jam.

Hurry up and check this place out. I'm pretty sure this is where I got the side rails and they have an 02 V70 with the roof rack. It will not last long. I just happened by it looking for some other parts. Call this one first and see it they might have the side rails and cross bars. I think they charged me about $200 for the side rails, but I'm not real sure:

Let us know how it goes.

About the only difference with installing them on the new V70 is you cut most of the molding off.

Just wondering if you did anything about finding a roof rack?

JimK is correct, I just did it today (watch it get done rather ), and it took the person who changed it about 20 minutes. You can look at my V70 at the following links:

1. Before the rails.

2. After the rails.
