Question V70 Transmission replacement - Need help

I have a 2003 Volvo V70 2.4 non-turbo FWD. I need to replace the transmission, I am puzzled about how people are getting these out of their vehicles. Does it come out the top? the bottom? do you have to take the engine out? If anyone knows how it's done I would greatly appreciate if you told me how you did it, and any advice you may have. I don't want to take the motor out as it is a lot of work. Thank you!

You'll want to completely drop the subframe, support the engine and transmission from the top, and drop the trans out the bottom. It's the best and only way I'd do it. I've done quite a few this way.

Awsome! I will give it a shot, Thank you for the info. I'll let you know if I have any issues on the way. I assume it can be done with standard tools no?

You'll need to go to an Auto parts store and rent a floor jack with a cross beam adapter, or transmission adapter, and a transverse engine support bar.

There are quite a few precautions you should make as well. If want, I can email you a PDF of service information for removal and replacement of your transmission.

Private message me with your email address and I'll send it to you. It's not an easy job, and there's a lot that could go wrong. You'll want to make sure you have power tools.

Pitfalls to be avoided:

1.) Make sure the engine and transmission are fully and properly supported before dropping the subframe.

2.) Buy ALL necessary parts before beginning any work.

3.) All bolts that are to be angle tightened must be replaced

4.) Torque wrench with Angle is required.

5.) Not absolutely necessary, but swivel impact sockets with a good ⅜" impact wrench.

6.) Support the steering column with a ratchet strap when dropping the subframe.

7.) Make sure nothing is attached to the subframe when you drop it.

8) Get all of your old transmission fluid out of your trans cooler. There are flush cans you can buy.

9.) Drain the used trans you're installing. That includes the torque converter then fill it up with fresh AISIN Fluid.

There's more...

Awsome, keep them coming. These are very helpful. I sent a PM of my VIN, I'm not sure if it went through. If you don't see it shoot me an email and I'll reply with my vin# there.
