1998 Volvo V70 having problems starting wont start until four or fifth attempt.
Change all ignition parts...., coil, plugs etc..still have problem. if anyone has encounter his problem..please help.....

 

It might be that fuel pressure is dropping off when the engine is off.
If you have a fuel pressure gauge you could check and see how quickly
pressure drops with the engine off.

Could be the fuel pressure regulator or leaking fuel injector.

If fuel pressure is holding, maybe your fuel pump relay is starting to fail.

Have you tried holding the key in position 2 for a few seconds to let fuel pressure
build up before you start?

 

don't have fuel pressure gauge have hold key in position 2 with same results, I do smell unburned fuel after engine start as if engine is flooding

Sounds like you have fuel.

A bad MAF sensor can make the car hard to start.
You could try unplugging the electrical connection on the
MAF sensor. If that helps with the starting, clean the sensor
with a spray can of MAF cleaner.

Did you use Volvo/OEM ignition parts or aftermarket?
Cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs?
Air filter not plugged?

Does the engine warm up normally, temp gauge normal?

Even if your CEL is not on, there may be codes pending.
You could connect a scanner and see if you find any.
Autozone may do it for you.

Hello, A 1998 could have a clogged fuel filter. You must cross the T's and dot the I's when you have a no/slow start condition. Kira

 

Is AutoZone place to go for reading codes? Am very far from dealer and having trouble with transmission someone said might be an electrical switch, under the air cleaner filter.

Many do, you could call your AZ first to make sure.

You may be having a problem with the PNP switch, you should start a new topic for that.

As a new member of the forums, you may not know that you should always start a new thread for a new topic. Posting a mostly unrelated problem on an existing thread is called hijacking.

 

Thank-you, I did call AutoZ, local shop does read for Volvo. You are correct I did not know about hijacking and apologize to all. Next time I will start new thread.

 

Stop pounding your head against the wall. The majority of AutoZone locations have OBD II scanners and will pull codes for FREE. You will not get a manufacturer specific result, but OBD codes are quite similar among euro manufacturers, and domestic for that matter. Get the codes pulled and go from there; could be a myriad of things, we need more info to help. Good luck!
