Default Volvo dip stick mystery..

Hi allHaving recently bought a 07/2000 V70 I noticed the dipstick is not the right one.. The former owner told me he had changes the stick as the old one ha broken... However this 'new' stick does not give me an accurate reading option as the min/max indication on the stick seem to be way of the actual oil level on the stick..I have been trying to find the right stick length and form as i think it's not the right one..I think this is the Audi type engine ( direct injection on cover of engine) the one before the Volvo d engine .
Anyone who can help me out here? Where can I find the engine type should there babe a number on the engine somewhere?
What about the length of the stick? Should it be round or flat? Where abouté should you read the level? On this stick the min/ max is about half an inch from the bottom part where the oil level seems to be about two inches on the stick! I don't want to risk to put too much oil in , but evidently not enough oil give me similar stress levels..
On top of all this it seems that the dipstick tube going into the engine leaks a bit of oil so that is quite worrying..
Any suggestions welcome!
Take care,
Ronan

Your best choice would be to contact a Volvo dealer for the correct part - two choices for dipsticks 9180736 or 9497470 depending on VIN#. The first parts page is for the 2000-2007 cars, second page is for the 1998-2000 cars.
