Volvo v70 1997 fwd convertion to awd
I’ve read on some other forum that you can fit awd rear axle to a non awd model im looking forward to it because i baught cheep volvo with broken engine so i can fix it and have it for fun and i read that you can awd swap it so it would be fun in a snow and somethink like that if any of you have any expirence with that ?
You would need two complete cars to do this so why not just purchase one awd Volvo?
The AWD system used in Volvos until 2003 used a viscous coupling to act as the center differential. The fluid in the coupler has to get hot (by having the front wheels spin faster than the rear wheels) to transfer any power to the rear wheels - and it's not much. Most customers when faced with a failure of any part of the system (coupler, driveshaft or angle gear/transfer case) opted to remove the bad part - for it cost too much to fix. (starting when the cars were maybe 10 years old - now there is no value to a broken 850) So if you really want to tinker and go for it - but you will end up spending way more than the car could ever be worth - even if you put at outrageous price on your fun.
The most fun I've had in snow was in rear wheel drive cars -
Seriously if you are looking for something with AWD to slide in snow and then be able to get back home - a viscous coupled awd system will not be your best choice.
