Default What is the most economical RPM range

Hi Guys!
I own a 99 V70 (none turbo). Just came back from a road trip fully loaded (5 people plus dog)hauling a small utility trailer (packed - see pic!)going through the nevada mountians and what notand I have to say I was shocked to find at the end of it all i was getting 29-30 MPG!!!!!!! This is driving between 55 - 60 Mph for the most part except of course up mountain passes. Now this has lead me to wonder at what RPM range would be considered the best Fuel economical place to be. My car has done about 174K (maybe thats why it's getting better MPG) and runs like a freaking CHAMP! I believe I was cruising around 2400 RPM'S. Someone told me at 2700 RPM is the best value. Is this true?
