Default Where are all the 1997-1999 V70s?

I've been looking around religiously for a turbo wagon, front wheel drive (not AWD). Oddly enough there are bunches of 2000-2002 V70s, and as the years go on fewer are front wheel drive. My question is though, where are the 1997-1999 V70s? Very few are listed for sale for some odd reason. I know the 1st gen is from 1997-2000 and 2nd gen from 2001-2007, and so on. What I am finding are ALOT of 2000 and 2001s, but alot fewer 1997-1999.

What gives, do you think? Fewer made, fewer sold, or are they such good cars that people are holding on to them? Or conversely, are the 2000 and 2001 models such a pain in the **** that people are trying to unload them?

I've seen 2001 and 2002 low mile ones going for the same price as a 1997 850 turbo. Has there been a glut or are they cars to be avoided?

Don't know where you're located, but look up www.torchlightmotors.com. They're on the east coast.

Speaking as an owner of a 1998 V70 T5 Turbo. this would be my guess. I mean this model has an indestructible drivetrain. solid. fun to drive. usual plastic pieces break. but overall I give a 8 outta 10 rating. I'm currently at 134,000 and no issues with the turbo(replaced at 75,000 under warranty). eats up the highway. very comfortable.

If you find one. buy it. good luck.

Could be cause the 99-01 (approx) have so many faults.
Trim vinyl on the doors bubbling, etm issues, gearbox (auto's), headlinings sagging.
Plus the std 850/70 probs of, evap, abs, on so on.
Just doesn't add up for me.

I'd like a later model v70 than my 96 850, but I wont touch a 98-02.
Have seen a few '05s, but the price here is ~ 30,000 Aus.

Even considered a v50, but they killed the interior with that f...ing ugly floating surf board they call a dash.

I live in Liverpool and on wednesday 22nd I decided that I wanted another volvo having turned to the dark side for a few years. I looked on the internet and after 30 mins found a 97 v70 se t5 auto located less than three miles from me. Went to see it with two mechanics who gave it the thumbs up. Ended up costing £895 with loads of tax and MOT. She has been about a bit with 166000 on the clock but blows no smoke and has full history from volvo. Only prob is that its on 16" wheels. They look crap having previously owned a v70 r and a c70. They are out there in england you just have to be lucky

However, finding a manual turbo diesel is not as easy!

Got mine with 134k on the clock, now has 211k and I hope to keep it for a good while more.

Had the odd problem, but generally it drives fine, tows a caravan great, and is comfortable. Get 30+ mpg towing a caravan at 50-60MPH, and 50+mpg at 60-70MPH not towing. If you cruise at over 70MPH, consumption goes up quite rapidly, like it could do with a sixth gear ...
