Default Window Buttons - Sticky

The window buttons on the driver's door on my 1999 V70 have gotten "sticky" to the touch. At first I thought something had spilled on them, but cleaning doesn't help, and it's only the buttons, not the face plate. I'm thinking it might have something to do with age and the Florida heat. Was just wondering if anyone else has seen this. Thanks.

It is from the Head and the oil on your hands.

The same sticky layer on my V70 99. I thought it is a special coating for better friction with fingers.

Me too! I'm thinking of trying some clear nail polish or laquer to get rid of the stickiness...

Another thread has suggested using isoprophyl alcohol. I have tried this on my switch bank and I can say DON'T DO IT. It does remove the sticky goo, but it also removes the black right off of the switch! What you get is a pale white switch or in my case a big blotch of pale white. I stupidly tried acetone (same stuff in nail polish remover) and it did the same thing, but a whole lot faster. The only thing I've found that does a reasonable job of removing this crap is Goo Gone or any citrus oil based cleaner. It does a marginal job and the switches are still a little sticky when you're done, but it's better than removing all of the color or not doing anything at all.

Sorry to be anti-helpful, but at least nobody else (that reads this at least) will have silly looking bleached out switches.

Try some matte or gloss sealer. Will put a nice dry coating. But I'd recommend disassembling them before spraying them.
