2011 Xc60 Harmonic Balancer went out
Hello,
I'm a bit new to Volvo. This is my first Volvo, it's a 2011 XC60 T5 (MY12) which I love.
My Volvo's power steering went out which was alarming and then the overheating light went on and then smelt of burning rubber. After a bit of time and moving it to a safe location to stop, the low battery indicator went on.
It was towed to the place where I had the 100,000km service performed two month prior and they said that the harmonic balancer went out and will cost anywhere from $1000-2000 to fix. I was assuming that it was the drive belt. I called a local Volvo dealership and they said they haven't had that happen to one of their vehicles before. Even the master tech hasn't seen that happen. The rubber part fell apart.
I'm just curious, as that's a pretty important part of the engine, is there some sort of warranty that Volvo would honour? I could completely understand if a rubber belt went out but a critical part of the car shouldn't breakdown that quickly right? The belt outlived the balancer... seems a bit off.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
