2012 Volvo XC60- loud whining noise
My volvo is making a loud whining noise on the driver's side of the car. I did the PVC box check and it didnt change in sound. What else could be making this noise on the opposite side of the motor from the timing chain and water pump?
take a tube or short length of hose and use it as a listening device to see if you can better pinpoint the location. I'd suspect something like a vacuum pump, power steering pump, belt idler etc. I believe the vacuum assist pump is located opposite of the engine's nose if that helps. Not even sure if your model has one but the vacuum pump helps build/maintain brake booster vacuum. Any odd feel to the brake pedal or stopping the car in the first 100 feet or so following a cold start (say more pedal pressure when first backing out of a garage or pulling out of a parking space)?
