Does someone know if the 2013 model has a cabin air filter? Or it is the same with the engine air filter?

Yes it does.

 

And No it's not the same as the engine air filter.

 

We have an XC 60 and the cabin air filter keeps getting saturated and then smelling. Neither our trusted Goodyear repair center or our Volvo dealer can figure out why this happening or where a potential water leak may be contributing to the problem. The dealer contacted Volvo international who still two months later has gotten back to us. We have replaced the filter three times in the last six months.

 

The drain tube is most likely blocked. Either the carpet is pushing on it, or bugs have blocked it somewhere, or when you change the filter it's become dislodged, or so much stuff has come in from outside the bottom of the whole air assembly has collected crap inside it got blocked that way. Start by having someone clean out the drain tube, upper drain tube fittings, and then pull the blower to see if crap has collected in the air box assembly. Sounds like constant sitting water, that's usually where the smell comes from. Good luck, let us know what it was,....you might also want to pull the carpets , esp the passenger side to see if collected water is pooling there as well.
