Default After map update Navigation stuck "navigation starting up"

Hi all,

I have recently bought a late 2014 xc60 (d4, awd, ocean race). I wanted to update the european map. I followed the procedure (format usb fat32, 32gb, downloaded directly to usb, verified download). When i put the usb in car, it showed the notification on map update. Pressed OK and it started to update.

As i have read around that it is not a problem to switch off the car as the update will resume once the car is turned on after 30-40 min driving, i stopped. When I turned on the car again, the update didnt resume and the navigator is stuck at "navigation starting up". It doesnt take any command or anything.

I downloaded the maps once again on another usb stick and when I plug it it, it shows a notification "maps are updated" pres exit to close but still navigation wont start.

I tried to reset through the menu to factory setting but nothing changed. I disconnected last night the negative wire from the battery but still have the same issue (nothing has been reset).

Do you guys have any idea how I can get it back working (without going at a dealer &#128513?

Did you ever resolve this ?

I have a 2016 XC 60, never did a map update till this month. Tried with 32 GB FAT32 USB. Got a message after USB in to insert usb 1. Reinserted the same usb, Then exit came on, so Hitoshi to that . When I went back to website from Volvo, now said needs 64 go usb. Formatted the new 64 GB as fat32 and down loaded the North America maps with the Volvo program. Inserted into car usb and now get message “navigation starting up”…but nothing happens. Tried factory reset and same message. Never said if map download or not and no other choices come on and won’t take any command.

seems like stuck in navigation starting up. Dealer service said it needs the usb, which I did already. They were no help to reset system and no other ideas

any ideas???? to get this working again. Of course this is my wife’s car and she is unhappy not having the navigation system. No good deed goes unpunished

Unfortunately I haven't. I took the car at a dealer and they tried to make a reset but no success. Seems like even here there is no help at all.

i believe this would be a glitch on the latest map itself.

My 2018 V60 T5 navigation got into the "Navigation Starting Up" after the map update of 32319163 which was released in May 2021 - failed to read the USB drive I was using about 40% done. When I re-attempted the update it would say "Maps are already loaded" and fall back to "Navigation Starting Up" I talked to many Volvo shops and the general consensus is that an IHU reload of the software is the only way out of the problem. As it happens, Volvo just released 32319164 for North America - that update did work and brought the navigation back online for me. The update did fail one time during the process. The key is to never ever ever remove the USB drive after a failure - it will tell you to hit exit and then restarts again where it left off. Mine took 1.5 hours and I left it running in the driveway and baby sat it until it completed. These instructions have to be followed precisely in you own the TFT non-gui sensus nav: https://volvo.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9156 The only issue now is the RSI is not working - there is no box in MY CAR to check or uncheck to enable or disable it. I found nothing in the settings portion of navigation. So its not reading the street signs, but everything else is working again.

Exactly. Had same issue with Europe Map here in UK. During update received the "false" warning that USB is unreadable etc etc and aborted the update. Port was unreadable even for music files...fortunately cleared by doing V40 button/Settings/Factory Reset User Data. A few abortive update attempts later the navigation system was totally shot and in the "Maps are already loaded" and "Navigation Starting Up" limbo.

Seems that the system had stored the new map number and version during the aborted update attempt even though there is no supporting map information, and so no longer wanted to update from the USB (hence "maps loaded"); and, as there is no map information during startup, the system just hangs there with the "Navigation starting..." message. A so called Mexican standoff/Hobsons choice.

The solution is to update a with different map to override the corrupted previous failed update and then to update with the map you really want.

corytx69 succeeded because he retried with a newer map version a little while later so the system "knew" it was a new map. In my case the next version comes out in 2023 and hey I cannot not wait that long. So have the same issue as am02857 and JDB.

So I downloaded the Israeli map (because it is so small) onto the USB memory stick (FAT32/32GB), put it into the port, switched the car on, map started to load and 15 minutes later I was in the middle of Israel. Next I did a "quick format" on the stick, loaded the Europe map, checked validity via the Volvo web application, put memory stick into port, started car and the map started to update. The update takes 1hr 50 minutes. So switched car off and am going to sleep. Hopefully the update will continue on my next longer drives. Hope this helps someone, and I appreciate the suggestions posted on this and similar threads which confirmed the memory stick format, the false error messages and the need to never remove the stick from the port until the update completes.

I just created an account on here to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! My father's Volvo XC70 was bricked for exactly the same reason, was starting to think I'd have to go to a dealer. I used ExFAT but it still worked. Thanks for posting
