Bad things about XC60 2023 T8
I've just got this car, and this is my first luxury car. So I am frustrated that things that I used to see in Honda or Kia are absent in this car.
I'll use this thread to mention such things and hopefully some of them Volvo will fix.
P.S. See here list of things I love about my car.
Software issues. I hope they will be fixed with some future updates.
1) Infotainment system is naked. It looks gorgeous, but the lack of features makes you feel that you have a test car. Update I've read about google OS for cars. This is turning to be a huge project, many manufactures announced switch to this OS, including Ford, GM, Honda, Rivian. So there is a big chance platform will become better and better in upcoming years.
2) Absence of Android Auto. I've read that it is not coming, because we are supposed to have same experience with built-in info system. But we are not having it. The most obvious one is lack of Waze. There might be some other apps you use on your phone, and 99.9% they are not available in the car.
3) Phone app does not show location of the car. Kia used to have it. Update according to Volvo UK website the UK version shows location of the car in the app. I wonder why they don't allow it for US.
4) Phone app does not notify you when windows are left open. I heard Mercedes has this. Update Looks like door notification does not work as well, I forgot to lock car yesterday evening and it stayed open all night.
5) Car has buttons to configure (or cycle through) dashboard display options. But guess what? You have only 3 options: 1) turn off map 2) check last trip details 3) clear last trip. I am not sure if I need more options, but having 6 buttons just to cycle through 3 options is ridiculous.
6) Car has quite bad documentation. It is designed in a way: you need to search for topic. Search works great, but I also want to cycle through topics. I just cannot search for a topic that I don't know exist. Some most interesting functionality are covered badly: e.g. pilot assist. ow it works, how to control it, you need to try and error on the road to understand, you cannot get anything from docs. Same bad docs inside phone apps. And also when you are inside settings there is no link to quick docs about the setting you are looking at. Update I have all options available, yet documentation shows me some features that I don't have: wireless charging, sun shades in rear windows, climate control mini display in back of console for rear passenger.
7) No car info in infotainment system. I want to see: 1) charging speed&type 2) trip details 3) various liquids levels 4) various sensor details, e.g. temperature inside car
8) Pilot assist is good, but I wish it could do much more. It does not slow down car in red light, it does not slow down car on right/left turn when I push left turn signal, it does not speed up car to current speed limit, it does not self navigate along current map route. Also it is quite useless on small streets, because every time you hit a break it cancels Pilot Assist and you have to re-enable it, I wish it could stay on for good.
9) No support for Alexa or Google Home. And no 'pre-condition' button on the key. How am I supposed to pre-condition it? By using app in the phone? This is quite inconvenient.
10) Rain sensor turns off itself when you use wiper manually. Why? In other cars it is always turned on, or at least it is configurable.
11) Some functionality is weird. Settings have "fold back seat head rests" setting, which is actually a button. What's the use case? Manual says "for better rear view". Another setting (which is also not a setting but a button) - adjust passenger seat from driver seat. What's the use case? And wouldn't it be more obvious to add this button to car seat adjustment display? What is "creep" setting? I've read doc page and I can't figure it out.
12) If your day lights not on auto and you close the car -. lights stays on forever and in few days your buttery will die. They should add like 'auto switch off in 1 hour' or at least 'app should notify that lights were left on'.
Hardware issues. I hope Volvo will fix them with next face-lift verison.
1) Plastic cap for child isofix lock in rear seats is 1) ridiculous 2) hurts lower back of rear passengers 3) makes installing child seat a cumbersome process. Honda has just a tear in seat leather and actual isofix lock is deep inside. It looks amazing, almost invisible, and car seat installation is very easy
2) Wires under the front seats that are clearly visible when you sit in the rear. This is just humorous, my friends lough at my car
3) No LED color lightning inside. I admit Volvo lightning is nice, all areas are good lit. But you cannot have this 'mood lightning' that you have in Kia or Mercedes.
4) Birds eye (360 camera) looks like not enough cameras are installed. I think other cars show it better.
5) No automatic parking. I hardly would use this feature, but other cars have it and this one does not
6) I've read about this design flaw issue: dirt inside the rear doors. So far I obviously didn't experience it (I have car for just few days), but this sounds quite bad.
7) Fuel tank cap does not pre-open - you need to push it to open. This 1) makes my hand dirty 2) originally made me puzzled of how to open
8) Cargo space is small vertically. The car is bigger than CR-V, but cargo space is less. I assume this is because of electric motor.
9) Two blank buttons on the right. What do they do? One has a hole, is it SD card slot? I could not find it in docs. And anyway blank buttons look very bad. Update Found some info in docs: one button is air sensor, another button is temperature sensor.
10) Crystal drive shifter and turn-on button. I wish they remove it completely. There should be zero buttons in the console. I want to use that space to put my phone, or beverages. I don't want my passenger to click this buttons or touch shifter.
11) Start/Stop button is present. I want car to turn on when I enter in, and turn off when I exit. And as I mentioned before - I want zero buttons/***** on console. They should get rid of this ridiculous **** and add wireless charging instead.
12) Rear doors opening angle is less than 90 degree. After Honda CR-V I am struggling to put in car seat with a baby.
Things that can be fixed with 3rdparty parts
1) Phone app does not allow to set schedule for electric charger. Some houses have cheaper tariffs at night. This can be fixed by buying 3rdparty charger, but car should do it by itself. My electric Kia could do it.
2) No phone wireless charger. Wait, what? In 2023 we don't have phone wireless charger in the car? Update I went to UK site and guess what? They have wireless charger and also they have front seats massage. I would love to pay more for both features, but they are not available in US
Update 2 Found wireless charger pad on Amazon, just $60. Also I checked that XC90 also doesn't have it.
Things that are unpleasant, but Volvo hardly can fix:
1) No more tax credit in US. I paid for this car $83K and I didn't get any rebates neither federal nor from state. I think it is too expensive.

First, I doubt that dealer allows to return the car.
Second, there is no any other cars. At least in US. XC60 is a monopolist for the time being. Mercedes has announced new GLC, but they don't even have plans to bring it to US.
All other cars are either non-PHEV, non-luxury or have ridiculously small electric range.
Third, this post is not about returning the car. It is about things I wish Volvo work on and fix. It has on-the-air updates, so most of things it can simply fix.
Btw, drove this car 50 more miles today and added few more bad things. I'll keep exploring

It was very helpful.
Volvo has fixed lots of issues since 2019.
So my above list might be shorten soon

I have the 2021 T8 with the old version of infotainment. It has a wireless charger, carplay and android auto, various colors for ‘mood lighting’ (i set mine to blue), phone app shows the location of the car. I believe there was a parking assist option but I didn't get it.
so i guess they must have changed some things in 2022 when they replaced the infotainment system.
Can’t speak to the other items on your list.
