Control arm & ball joint assembly known vulnerability in XC60 2018?
I had to take my family's XC60 2018 with a little over 50K miles to the dealership for weird squeaky noise.
They said its the control arm & ball joint assembly issue, which set us back by close to 2 grands.
I was told two things:
The "control arm & ball joint issue" is bound to happen with XC60s, but much sooner in the Northeast - at around 50K to 70K miles - where pot holes take a toll on the car.
XC70s, our previous Volvo also driven in the harsh Northeast conditions, however didn't suffer from the same issue because they had a different mechanism.
Are these statements generally accurate?
Pot holes or no pot holes, if a car is "bound to require" a major repair only after 50K-70K miles, it sounds more like a manufacturing flaw - the kind that the authorities should scrutinize - than regular wear and tear.
