Fuel filling issue

Fuel filling issue
When trying to fill the car with fuel the pump automatically shuts off as if the car is already filled you hear a gurgling noise and repeat the process but it won't let you fill the car but ever so slowly. The dealership said I need to replace the fuel filler tube which is $250 in parts for a total repair of $1,300. I don't believe this is the issue but if anybody has experience please chime in.

I believe that there should be a vent/overflow tube that may be blocked. When you pump gas in your tank, you are replacing the air with fuel. The air escapes through a vent. If the vent is blocked, the air can not escape and will therefore block the gas from going in. You can’t have gas and air occupying the same space at the same time.

RE-igniting this thread , suddenly my V50 is doing exactly the same. I thought it might be the specific fuel pump but it's every gas station I go to so rules that out. I also wondered if the fuel had changed , additives etc , it looks like foam on the top? Driving me nuts, from empty it is taking 18 minutes to fill , sadly I timed it (might as well go electric )
@Michael Phelon , did you find a reason or solution ?

I just took my xc90 to the Volvo service place bc my check engine light was on. They narrowed it down to the fuel filler neck. I didn’t really think much of it but every time I filled the tank, it would stop multiple times and would sometimes spill out. So that may be the same problem as yours. 🤷🏻♀️ My car is still under warranty so it was covered. Not sure how much it would cost out of warranty. Hope that helps
