Default Head Gasket

I purchased a 2012 xc60 two weeks, after one week noticed a message telling me that my coolant was low, tapped it off. A couple of days later same thing, took it to our Volvo repair guy who informed me that the head gasket is shot, probably $4000 repair. He said that he has never seen this before. Anyone else have this problem?

Might be a reach, but does Volvo back their parts? If I could get something back it would make me happy, if not I have officially over paid for my used xc60.

We have reached out to a Volvo dealer to get the fix done.

We have not replaced any head gaskets due to coolant issues on these engines. Whats the mileage?

I haven't seen it either.

What do you mean by "back their parts"? The car is outside of warranty.

I know its a stretch to ask, but the answer is always no until you ask. My temporary tags are still on!

Did you buy it from a Volvo dealer?

Not a Volvo dealer, a used car dealer with a reputable reputation.

I'd get a second opinion

Volvo has no reason to stand behind a car out of warranty that was purchased at a used car lot. It sounds like this would be between you and the place you bought it from.

Any goodwill assistance on cars outside of warranty that I have seen have been for original owners with a service history at Volvo dealers. Not second owners or owners who never go to the delaler for anything besides warranty. It also has to be diagnosed by a Volvo dealer (which usually isn't an issue since these are long time customers generally). I wouldn't expect anything from Volvo in this situation.

I would get another opinion though, since that is pretty rare. Do you know how they determined it was a head gasket?
