Default A hole underneath a rear bumper

Dear all
I picked up my brand new XC60 yesterday and immediately noticed that the sensor that opens a tailgate is missing. Dealer told me that its due to a chip shortage and I will be contacted by Volvo one day to add the option!!! Very odd, but I was so excited about the car so I thought I could deal with it.
I reached home and today morning I found this big hole underneath the rear bumper and have no idea about it!
Is it trailer hitch related?
Is it related to the missing sensor?
any idea?

#xc60 #rear #bumper
Edit:
I contacted the dealer and they said its the place for future trailer hitch! Another example of low quality craftsmanship!

I just noticed the same on my 2023. I was checking for the catalytic converter having been stolen, because I started getting the "Emission control system" warning light (the car was serviced two months ago, has 10,000 miles on it).

Are you not joking that the dealer told you that's a "place for future trailer hitch"? Sorry, but I am finding it hard to believe. That leaves a huge hole in the body of the car, which when driving on wet weather must be a great thing. I mean, what the heck.

I had to take mine to the dealership yesterday (don't even ask...) and I just thought of asking the guy there, and he said, without batting an eye, "Yeah, they leave open spots for accessories that may be attached".
