I wanted to share the good news. It seems the universe provided us with the exact Volvo we were looking for after weeks of searching. If we hadn't been poking around a used car lot after hours checking out their inventory, and if the dealer hadn't been on his way home and spotted us, we'd still be looking. He said that he just got in a 2011 Volvo XC60, only 61K miles, but it was in his lot across the street, we should come back on Monday, which we did. Looked it over, checked the CarFax, etc. It was driven locally by the quintessential old lady (only owner, no accidents, well maintained). Fortunately, they hadn't yet (but were about to) detail the car so we were just in time to stop them from doing that (both Jeff and I react badly to the chemicals--toxic stuff--so walked away from several prospective cars we saw). We test drove and had our mechanic--who, coincidentally is next door to that used car dealer's lot and also serviced this car a few times--do a PPI, he loved it and told us to grab it, which we did do after a bit of haggling (final price $8500). Only needs new struts (being replaced now) and a few minor things like new front door sills and cover for the driver's seat electronics. We do have to undo the previous owner's mess with the sunroof: used contact cement (or something similar--creates little rubbery ***** when rubbed) to seal it, got it in the channel (it still opens) and on the paint around the periphery (anyone know how best to remove that stuff without damaging the paint?) BTW: the sunroof in our old XC90 leaked so years ago Jeff sealed it with caulk--no problem since (we don't need a functional sunroof). Anyway, just wanted you guys to know and to thank anyone following along.
